EggsGiving: Turkey on the Big Green Egg

November 30, 2010 Leave a comment

We brined this bad boy overnight and then cooked it on the Egg. The one tip about the Egg is you have to be careful with wood chips, everything can come out a little too smoky. This Turkey, however, was delicious.

Walk Score

November 3, 2009 Leave a comment

Walkscore.com provides a useful site for people trying to figure out where to live in San Francisco.  They probably need to include hills in the calculation, because some places are very well located, but people tend to drive if they have to hoof it up a 45 degree hill on the way back.

The system has a heatmap that helps you understand which areas are more walkable than others. This is their top 10 most walkable areas for SF:

1 Chinatown
2 Financial District
3 Downtown
4 North Beach
5 Mission
6 Nob Hill
7 Pacific Heights
8 South Of Market
9 Western Addition
10 Haight-Ashbury

Not sure all these areas would make it on the  most livable neighborhood list. It also says the San Francisco is more walkable than New York. I guess living at the top of Potrero Hill, I have a different perspective.

A cool site nonetheless.

Market Street Closure – What's the Point?

October 1, 2009 Leave a comment

The City is going to run a pilot that will divert all East bound (towards Ferry Building) traffic off of Market Street. Sorry, what’s the point? I didn’t think there was much traffic on Market to begin with. Does the city realize that you end up on Mission, from which you can’t take any left turns….EVER…..so you’ll end up going around the block to get on to 3rd or 7th going north. I think this is going to cause a major headache. They should either completely close down traffic and only allow Muni or they should not change anything.  More information.Market Street Closure

A Tunnel Through Potrero Hill?

September 16, 2009 Leave a comment

I didn’t realize this, but there use to be a tunnel through Potrero Hill! I just found out. The tracks were from around 22nd St. and went under the hill and came out by Anchor Brewery. The tunnel had to be filled in after an earthquake.

Geez, I hope this was in the disclosure package. AAB-4743

Defenestration Building Nearing Demolition

August 31, 2009 Leave a comment

Marie Antoinette gets all the attention for getting her head chopped off, but in the Czech Republic, they just threw the King out the window, which is where the term defenestration comes from.

It also happens to be the name for the site specific art piece, located at the corner of Sixth and Howard Streets  in an abandoned four-story tenement building. You know, the one with all the furniture coming out the windows. Well the site is scheduled to be demolished and replaced with affordable housing. The building is the focus of a lawsuit, you can learn more in an article in today’s SF Examiner

Seems to me the city should rebuild the spot, but with the same artist doing a similar installation. It is pretty unique to our city. It should be preserved, but the building should not.
